Beware of Roofing Scams
Submitted by David Barrow
With the recent hailstorm in Central, many residents are looking into getting new roofs. There are many good roofers in the area, but there are also some who are out to make a quick buck. Some roofers are knocking on doors, asking residents to inspect their roofs, and then telling residents that they have hail damage and can get a free roof from their insurance company. Sometimes, there is hail damage, and sometimes there may not be hail damage. It's always a good idea to get a second opinion.
Please make sure that you don't fall victim to a scam by making sure that any roofer who solicits your business is a licensed contractor and is insured and bonded. Ask to see their paperwork, and ask for references as well. Also, NEVER give money in advance to anyone. It's always better to pay after the work is completed to your satisfaction. Always check with your insurance company first and ask them to send an adjuster to your home to inspect your roof for hail damage prior to having anyone start roofing work on your home.
