New Mobile Phone Cookie App helps find Girl Scout Cookies
Weekend Booth sales planned March 4-20

BATON ROUGE (February 22, 2011)— Didn’t have a Girl Scout take your order for Girl Scout cookies? Not to worry, since Girl Scout cookies are easier to find than ever with the new Girl Scout Cookie Locator mobile phone app, free to download from the iPhone App Store and Android Market Place, or by calling **GSCOOKIES (**4722665437) from your mobile phone. By using the phone’s GPS location or manually entering a zip code, customers can map their way to cookie sale sites when Girl Scouts begin selling cookies at various booth locations March 4 – 20. Customers can also set up a sale email alert, and download sales information like location, dates, and time, to their phone’s calendar. The new mobile phone app is easy and fun to use, providing information from nutrition to discovering your Cookie personality. The mobile app supports iPhone, iPad, and Android mobile devices. BlackBerry users and any cell phone that can access the internet can visit the mobile site by pointing their phones browser to: http://mobile.littlebrownie.com. This mobile site has many of the same functions as the app.  The Cookie Locator is also available on the Girl Scouts Louisiana East website at www.gsle.org by clicking the Cookie Locator icon.
The mission of the annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale is to help girls do great things. Customers can support their efforts by purchasing additional cookies for donation to the troops’ Gift of Caring service projects. Gift of Caring cookies are donated to a non-profit or service organization selected by the troop, like fire and police departments, and military troops serving overseas. Last year, more than 5,000 boxes of cookies were donated through Gift of Caring.
The local council, Girl Scouts Louisiana East, is selling eight varieties of cookies for $3.50 a box with all proceeds remaining locally to support troops’ activities, special events and field trips, community service projects, and to help the council maintain camp properties, train and recruit volunteers, and provide the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. This year, don’t get left behind with empty cookie boxes — stock the freezer now and you’ll satisfy your Girl Scout cookie sweet tooth all year long.
Girl Scouts Louisiana East serves girls 5 to 17 in the parishes of Ascension, Assumption, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Jefferson, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. James, St. John, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, Washington, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana. For more information about Girl Scouts or volunteer opportunities call the council office in Baton Rouge at 225-927-8946, in New Orleans at 504-733-8220, or visit its website at www.gsle.org.
