Rebels Dominate Covenant Christian in First Home Game

By  |

The Covenant Christian Lions, hailing from Houma, La., were beaten by the Rebs in the first away game of the season, 91-67.  This may not be a true indicator of the contest, since CCA had just finished football and had the whole football roster on the team it seems when CPS showed up.

On the return visit, however, CCA decided to play more deliberately and slowed the game considerably, leading to a 16-14 ho-hum first quarter.  After some adjustments, the CPS Rebel-ution changed gears and went on a 22-5 rampage in the 2nd quarter to lead 38-19 at the half.

The final score was 78-49 after the bench was cleared in the whole 4th quarter with almost the whole team scoring.  Most of the scoring came from Dave Jackson with 20, Lance Wicker with 16, and Taylor Fletcher, adding 15.  The Rebel subs did a great job coming off the bench with key 3 pointers from Trevor Munn and Austin Pierce to keep up the scoring pace.

Junior varsity had their first convincing win with a score of 45-30, in spite of Jason Stubbs riding the pine after nasal surgery and Josh Anderson doing most of the scoring.

The girls varsity team, in spite of losing, did a great job of containing the opponents who were much bigger, more athletic, and much younger as well.  In just a week or 2 since they last met, the Lady Rebs have really shown improvement in defense, tempo and rebounding.
