Rebels Playing Friday with Championship on the Line
By Patrick Tate
The Central Private Rebels enter their final regular season football game with much on the line in Baker this Friday. The Rebels who have a perfect district record this season take on the Centreville Academy Tigers who are also undefeated. The two schools will once again meet wtih the district championship with the Rebels being the only team in recent history to beat the Tigers for the title. In addition it will be homecoming for the Rebels who have been away from home for the past four Friday nights. Being the final regular season ballgame of the year for the Rebels, they will also honor their 12 graduating seniors. The 12 seniors who have been a part of Rebel seasons that have ended in the state playoffs each year of their careers will say good bye to their supporters on Friday night.
The seniors are #71 Brandon Sullivan an offensive lineman for CP who has been a lead blocker for the Rebel running attack. Also on the offensive line is #77 Sy Tate a two year starter for the Rebels who has helped anchor the front of the CP attack. A new comer for the Rebels has been #4 Zach Leblanc. In his first year for the Rebels he has had handled the duties at fullback and linebacker. Zach has gained tough yards up the middle as well as been a reliable receiver out of the backfield.
Orrin Byland #75 has been a stalwart along sides of the line of scrimmage. As an offensive guard he has opened many of holes for the Rebels to run through and defensively he has been seen chasing down many opposing quarterbacks and stopping many opponents running games. Joey Harris #34 has done an outstanding job at linebacker where he has an interception and has kept the opponents peripheral rushing attack.
Daniel Holloway #68 has also been a force on both sides of the line of scrmmage helping open holes for Rebel runners and clogging the middle for the CP defense. #81 David Arnold has played tight end for the Rebels as well as defensive end and has made significant contributions on special teams for CP. Chuck Conrad #43 for the Rebels has continued the long tradition of CP for having outstanding middle linebackers. Chuck has led the Rebels in tackles and is a big reason the Rebel defense has recorded two shut outs this season.
Jonathan Moak #3 is another first year player for the Rebels who has made large contributions on both sides of the football. Moak leads the team in interceptions and has also caught passes from the CP quarterbacks for scores. #12 Troy Lowe has been a solid performer in the backfield for the Rebels recording his first 100 yard rushing performance for CP as well as returning a kick off for a touchdown at a critical point of the ACCS ball game. Trevor Shepherd #8 may be the most versatile of the Rebel seniors. He has led the Rebels in rushing as well as being a punter and kicker for CP. He has scored rushing, receiving and kicking. He may also be one of the smallest defensive lineman in the state but has caused much havoc in the opposing backfield.
Central Private will miss their seniors and would like to congratulate them on a fine season. Although this game is for the district championship, the Rebels have clinched a play off spot which begin next week.
