JUNE 7, 2010

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Hurricane season is upon us.  There are seven (7) storms predicted to make landfall in the United States.

BE PREPARED!

Purchase your emergency supplies ahead of time. The City of Central, Central Fire Department and the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office have an

Emergency Preparedness Plan in place and the Central Fire Dept. will be our

EMERGENCY OPERATION CENTER (EOC).  During emergencies, this will be our point of contact. Our EOC will coordinate with the East Baton Rouge Parish EOC who will also have Central personnel on site.

If you, your organization or your church has a “CHAIN SAW CREW” who may assist in emergencies, please contact the Mayor’s office (261-5988),

so that your crew may be placed on our list to be alerted by our EOC as needed.

      CENTRAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

I attended the International Conference of Shopping Centers last week in Las Vegas with the Central Economic Development Foundation.

The old adage of “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”, is not true for our

Central Economic Development!  As a direct result of this conference, we are following up with a multitude of opportunities, including several restaurants and fast food chains; clothing/apparel shops; and  home furnishing retailers.

While there, we also met with a number of developers, one of whom is the president of his company and has recently visited Central.  This gentleman

is interested in a major development in our city.

      CIVIC ASSOCIATIONS

If you are in a development (subdivision) etc. that has a civic organization, (home owner’s association), please call City Hall

(261-5988) and speak with Charlotte.  We need the name of your organization, a contact person and phone number.  The best preventive

is neighborhood watch.  Always be vigilant in your neighborhood and

report suspicious activity to the Sheriff’s office.

      BIBLE SCHOOLS AND CAMPS

There are a number of Bible Schools and camps being offered this summer.  These are great activities for your youngsters and I encourage you to get them out of the house and into these activities. You may contact local churches and schools for dates and times.

      GRADUATES

I want to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our graduating seniors!  The future is bright for you, especially in Central.  Whether you are pursuing a higher education or looking into the work force, I wish you the very best in your endeavors.  My office is always open to you and

      May God Bless you!

FAREWELL AND GOOD LUCK TO A FRIEND

Due to health problems, Mr. Tommy Higgs, operational manager of CH2MHILL, has returned home to his family and the care of his personal physician. Mr. Higgs was very instrumental in helping the City of Central in its infancy and I would ask that we, as a community, keep Mr. Higgs in our prayers for a complete recovery.
