Central Resident Launches Anti-Loop Petition

By  |

Mike Stephens of Central has concerns about the financial viability of the Baton Rouge Loop and the effect that the proposed Loop may have on the City of Central. This week Mr. Stephens is beginning a campaign to collect as many signatures as possible on a petition, which will be presented to lawmakers in an effort to keep the Loop out of Central. The petition reads:

"We the undersigned OPPOSE the proposed BR toll Loop designed to run through the City Of Central. We are a community of strong values wanting to preserve our schools, churches and our quality of life.  We DO NOT feel that this loop will benefit our community. The undersigned citizens are opposed to this loop for one or more of the following reasons:
1) The loop has not been shown to be a financially sound venture, leaving open the possibility that the taxpayers would bear the cost of any shortfall.
2) The very existence of a highway of this magnitude in a quiet, rural community such as Central is contrary to the lifestyle we have chosen and built.
3) It has not been shown to our satisfaction that there would be any real traffic and transportation benefit to the Central community which would exceed the potential benefit of projects such as the Hooper Road extension. SAVE OUR COMMUNITY – Say NO to the LOOP!"

If you agree with these statements and would like to voice your opposition to the Loop, keep an eye out for petitions that will be appearing around Central over the next few weeks. Also, if you would like to take action now, contact Mike Stephens at [email protected] and he will put you to work circulating petitions for signatures or manning a petition table. To learn more about the Loop, you can check out the Loop proposal and possible route maps at www.BRLoop.com. Whether you agree or disagree with Mike Stephens, he is to be commended for stepping up and working for what he believes is best for Central. If you have a different opinion concerning the Loop, feel free to submit an article or letter outlining your views and Central Speaks.com will work with you to publish that opposing view.
