Savannah McNair, a parishioner at St. Alphonsus is not even 2 years old and has already endured more than many of us will face in our lifetimes. She has epilepsy but the cause of it is unknown. Basically she is a medical mystery known by many doctors around the country. Because of her illness, Savannah has spent quite a bit of time in hospitals in Baton Rouge and elsewhere-even the Cleveland Clinic for Epilepsy. The medical bills have built up very quickly for the McNairs over the last year since Savannah had her first seizure. The first seizure resulted in a coma that lasted 3 months. Once out of the coma, Savannah had to have speech, occupational and physical therapy. The therapies along with other hospitalizations have contributed to the ever growing hospital bill. The parishioners of St.Alphonsus and the citizens in the Central community have an unique opportunity to help Savannah and her family. Our Lady of the Lake Blood Bank will be having a blood drive at St. Alphonsus on January 24, 2010 from 8:00am-2:30pm. For each unit of blood donated, Our Lady of the Lake will deduct $15 from Savannah’s hospital bill. This blood drive is part of the OLOL Blood Bank matching program. By donating blood on this day, Not only will you help Savannah but also help someone that may need blood. Remember, Jesus shed his blood to save us. You can give your blood to help save two people. Savannah cannot get further treatment until some of the hospital debt is reduced. The parishioners at St. Alphonsus are so very generous that we could very well have 100 units of blood donated. (We have come close in the past.) Mark the date down and come support fellow parishioners in their time of need.
