CHS Updates from the PTO

The next School Board meeting is this Thursday, January 14 at 5 PM at Kristenwood. Following the meeting will be the design charette that was rescheduled from last week.

TOPS Presentation, Tuesday, January 19th, 6:30 p.m., in the Auditorium:

Kate Herke from the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance will be speaking on the TOPS application process as well as how to prepare your student for TOPS.  This is vital information that every parent of a High School student needs to know.  Refreshments will follow.

PTO Scholarships:

Parents of Seniors – the PTO is now accepting applications for scholarships.  The application is available on our website at:   <http://www.chspto.org/scholarships.html> http://www.chspto.org/scholarships.html.  Applications are also available in the guidance office at CHS.  Please note that only students whose parents are members of the PTO are eligible to apply.  The scholarship is for $500.   Deadline to apply is February 28, 2010.

Community Coffee Label Drive Update:

Congratulations to Mr. Corley’s homeroom class.  This class will be served a catered breakfast this month, courtesy of the PTO, for turning in the greatest number of Community Coffee labels.  Thanks parents for helping us achieve our goal.  We won’t know what the check will be for till later in the year, but we do know that YOU made it possible!

The PTO website (www.chspto.org)  is up to date with order forms, scholarship apps & how you can help support the PTO.  Please be sure to visit today!  The PTO is currently looking for a webmaster.  Please contact one of our board members if you would be interested.

Book Club:

Margaret says “There is a book club that our librarians, Pat Bordelon & Leslie Smith would like parents who might be interested to know about.  It’s actually rather fun!  This was my 2nd month to go & just had a delightful time.  Was challenged with the reading & turned out to be excellent! “

Credit Recovery Meeting:

1/20/10 meeting date -Parent’s Meetings for credit recovery will be offered at three times: 6:45 am, 11:30 am, 2:30 pm-Theatre.  Contact the Guidance office at 225-261-3045 for questions. 

AR Party:

There will be an AR party in the library this Thursday for students that had 100 or more points for the 1st Semester. (These students already know who they are.)

New School Design Mtg:

The design charette that was scheduled for last Thursday has been rescheduled for this Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at Kristenwood immediately following the School Board meeting.

ACT Prep Crash Course for Feb. ACT (back by popular demand!):

Dates for ACT Crash Course: Tues, Jan 19; Thur,Jan 21; Mon, Jan 25; Wed, Jan 27.

7:00 to 8:00pm;  T-building across from shop (parking lot on Wax Rd side) Cost- $100.  Pls RSVP by sending reply to this email and send check written to Susan Freeman with “ACT course” in check memo.

Thefts in Central:

If you live in Central, protect your 4-wheelers. There have been at least 2 thefts of 4-wheelers in the last week during the night. All of them were on trailers, and someone hitched up the trailers with the 4-wheelers on them and drove off. One was in Boganvilla subdivision, and the other was in Biltmore!

The Belles et Beaux Pageant will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. The pageant will be located in the theater at Central High School. Tickets can be purchased for $10 through the marketing department. There will be limited seating so it is suggested to purchase tickets early as they will be first come, first serve.  The marketing department still has some senior t-shirts for sale. T-shirts are $15 and are available in two designs. Marketing students are also selling black, hooded sweatshirts to raise money for their conference in Orlando during the first week of February. Sweatshirts are $20.
