This is the beach only two days after being cleaned.

While we sit inside sipping iced tea and wondering when it will get cooler, the amazing young people of the Amite River Preservation Association have once again been hard at work making their world a little better.

"They're still out there doing their part on the Amite River several times a week.  They have purchased a bigger boat and improved their launch.  They have already surpassed last year's litter removal total of over 800 cubic feet.  They recently recruited a couple of young artists to design signs to post along the river to discourage littering.  The signs were placed in areas that had been accumulating the most litter and appear to be making an impact.  The litter is noticeably less since the signs were put out.  The artists are Maddie and Grace Toler, students at St. Alphonsus Catholic School," shared Richard Venable, father of many of the members.

Last year this group of motivated people was recognized all the way up to the state level for their contributions.  This year, they continue to do the wonderful job they started despite receiving no formal recognition.  How do you express appreciation for the amazing efforts of this group of selfless, determined individuals?  All expenses for gasoline and supplies come out of their pockets. Consider making a donation.  Contact them at [email protected].  They are officially recognized as a non-profit organization now.  After all they do to keep our Amite River beautiful, it's the least we can do.
