Central Veterans Day Celebration November 11

    The City of Central will host the Veterans & Soldiers Celebration to pay tribute to our veterans and those in military service on Monday, November 11th at 6PM.  This event is free, open to the public, and will be a patriotic extravaganza of appreciation, music, and celebration. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony with music by the Central High Jazz Band.
    This year's event is hosted by Mayor Mac Watts and the City of Central, Central Community School System, Republican Women of Central, City of Central Republican Coalition, and the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana Geaux Seven Club. Color guard will be presented by Central Veterans Helping Veterans. Women's Veterans of Louisiana will also be recognized.
    This event will feature musical performances by the Central High School Jazz Band, American Idol finalist Megan Miller, the Baton Rouge Pipes Drums bagpipe corps, the Central Chorus, and the Central Ensemble.
    Special guests speaker will be Purple Heart Medal recipient Army Sgt. Michael McNaughton (Ret.),  Outreach Director for the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs. Many know him as the veteran on the cover of Time Magazine with President George W. Bush during his administration and for his cameo in the Lonestar band music video "Mountains." 
    Other speakers will be U.S. Congressman Bill Cassidy with a special flag presentation to the Central Veterans Helping Veterans, Navy veteran State Senator Elbert Elbert Lee Guillory, Navy veteran Judge Mike McDonald of the First Circuit Court of Appeals, Linda Furr, president of the Geaux Seven Chapter of Blue Star Moms, and many other special guests. 
    This event will be held in the Central Intermediate School courtyard . The Central High School Football Team and volunteers will be providing parking assistance for veterans. Parking lots closest to Sullivan Road will be used for the event.
